When and how did I watch this?

November 24th, 2015, on a friend’s Plex account.

Had I seen this film already?

No.

What did I know about the movie before watching it?

I went into this one blind. Being a recent release, I wanted to avoid pre-assessing the film.

What do I know about it now?

I’m not really sure.  It features ensemble cast (kinda frat-packy) driving a story full of hijinks and awkwardness, but also featuring some very odd and fascinating cinematography along with employing some high contrast colors that really pop off the screen.  The film veers into sexual jokes, then seemingly gratuitous violence, all the while keeping things light and centered on the tale of a hotel concierge that is presented as both very private and a little bit too personal.

What are some themes in the film?

Revenge, inheritance, devotion.  That’s about it.  This film is incredibly shallow.

Did this affect me personally?

No.  I was bored for most of it.

Why is this ranked #182?

Because it’s Wes Anderson and it’s “funny”.  If you think goofy accents, zany facial expressions, and potty jokes are funny, I guess that’s your bag.  Being a 2014 release also boosted this one, for sure.

Did my wife watch/like it?

She was annoyed.

Would I watch it again?

No.

Would I recommend it to a friend?

Don’t waste your time.

Does it deserve to be on this list as one of the greatest films of all time?

Nope.  It’s another recent film messing up the rankings on IMDb. It’s not a good film, let alone great.

Have your say!
